Heather Aubrey Lloyd left journalism a decade ago for her first love: music. She's been adding to her reporter-turned-songwriter narratives ever since, touring the country as half of Baltimore-based duo, ilyAIMY. Slam poetry influenced lyrical rhythms and specific, insightful imagery float above signature picked guitar, surprising djembe and most important of all - her lush alto. Pat Wictor (of folk supergroup Brother Sun) is a fan: "Voices this rich and emotionally hard-hitting don't come around often.

JONATHAN STONE LIVE @ HERB & SOUL
SATURDAY JUNE 7th, 2014
7:30 -9:30pm
No cover w/ dinner reservation; $10 cover without
The musical world of Brazil was awakening to the world in the 1950' s, and it became a crossroads of influences, feet still firmly in Brazilian soil, but blending the distinction between art and pop amidst classical and jazz-influenced harmony and the introduction of a tender lyrical sensibility. Marketers called it Bossa Nova, the "New Thing" but players just called it Samba.
It's received a number of treatments, but this Samba is at heart always about the voice and guitar, an uncluttered approach which highlights the deceptive simplicity of this very accomplished school of songwriters.
Jonathan Stone has embraced this ethos of simplicity and personal, accessible music-making in his 40 year love affair with Samba. A smooth voice, intricate phrasing and deft guitar work have drawn praise from has greats Charlie Byrd "the real thing", long-time Tonight Show guitarist Gene Bertoncini, "gifted", and the nice lady from Severna Park who said it made her "feel like she was in a movie."

Chaquis Maliq
Saturday, June 8, 2013, 8p - 10p

Singer, Songwriter, and producer are just some of the labels to describe Chaquis Maliq (Shuh-Kees Mah-Leek). Representing the new breed of women artists taking ownership of their musical paths by leading the songwriting and production of their musical creations, Chaquis Maliq is redefining the playing field as a multi-talented creator.
But before this San Francisco Native could even fathom engineering and producing her first two albums, The “Demonstration Vol. I” and “Veracity”; Chaquis was first a poet and theatrical spoken word artist, with piano playing background. It wasn’t until Chaquis relocated to the DMV (District of Columbia, Maryland,Virginia), that all her musical avenues dispersed from her heart and mind.
Already inspired by Soul, Funk, Gospel, Jazz, and Alternative music, Chaquis always admired guitar players. In 2011 Chaquis discovered a new love, which created her warm melodic, sweet blues, and honey jazz sound. The credit goes to her classical acoustic guitar aka Mr. Maliq. Entering this new chapter of her acoustic urban folk journey, Chaquis will release her first guitar project, “Harmonies of Me,” in Spring 2013. Although it’s a new beginning for Maliq, she still intends to create music to uplift her listeners and keep them encouraged.
Highlights in her burgeoning career include her first place award in 2008 for vocal excellence in a showcase sponsored by the National Association for Black Female Executives in Music and Entertainment (NABFEME). And, in 2009, she received media attention as the sole performance artist to be featured in coverage of the Captial Hip Hop Soul Fest on NationalGeographic.com, the web platform for the international publication National Geographic. Maliq also performed at the Black Family Reunion-Washignton D.C. and the International Soul Summit in Atlanta,GA and more to come.
